1 Timothy 2:1-6
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercession, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Do you ever have those days where you wonder what am I doing? What do I do next? Why am I doing this…life?
I’ve had a few of those here and there lately. I do ask myself those questions and I sometimes feel like I’m not doing any good or that all of this church planting stuff is just not going to work. But it takes a passage like this 1 Timothy 2 section to bring me back and recenter me on what God is doing. It helps. It reminds me of the Truth and helps me realize that a lot of those questions and self-doubt is really just lies from the devil trying to creep in.
So a few things to take away from this passage…
1. This is God’s heart. It’s His Will. It’s His desire that everyone be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. This whole Veritas name and what we’re starting to find what we’re about (the Truth) just gets confirmed more and more through passages like this. The Truth is what people need and it’s the Truth of the Gospel that saves…Jesus Himself. We all need Him.
2. It’s Jesus who is our mediator, intercessor, and advocate. He stands before the throne of God and pleads our case before the Father reminding Him of the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf. Our sins are paid for. We are forgiven. We are free. That’s the Truth.
3. The pressure is off. When you share this amazing Truth, it doesn’t have to be forced or contrived the way that Christians have been taught in numerous methods of sharing our faith. Instead, God makes the timing right. We need to be ready with the testimony, but He provides the right time, circumstance, and opportunity for us to give that testimony of the Gospel.
All of this really does rely much more on the Holy Spirit, His work and His plans that He has for the Church and for Veritas Community as a part of His Church. It’s not contingent on our faithfulness or our failures. All of our questions and doubts are abated through the Truth that Jesus brings.
